4th of July Market Update

Exercise your independence this weekend by heading to a local market and buying some great veggies!

The Downtown Austin Farmers Market will be in full swing early with their new hours 8 am to noon. Beat the heat and come get tons of fresh seafood, melons and tomatoes. There will even be Farmer Olympics. Not sure what that is, but I'm a little scared.

If you are outside the Austin area, more in the Amarillo neighborhood (my home town), the Golden Spread Farmers Market has opened for the season (July-October). The market is Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday beginning at 7 am. Rumor has it that they sell out around 9 am each morning so go early! The market is located in the Sunset Center parking lot at 3701 Plains Blvd. My grandfather helped build that shopping center - so glad it's still there.

And, if you are looking to celebrate your independence by supporting a good cause, you can support the Foundation for the Homeless at the annual Auditorium Shores celebration by buying sno cones and BBQ sauce. You can also buy a copy of Sno Cone Inc, an original comedy shot in Austin about one man's creative exit from homelessness. The movie features a number of famous Austin locals including Michael Dell and John Paul Dejoria.
